Explore Roman London

Fifty members of the Roman Society and Association for Roman Archaeology enjoyed an exploration of Roman London on Saturday 3 October, 2015.

The tour started at Billingsgate bath house, followed by a visit to the amphitheatre. The afternoon was spent at Mortimer Wheeler House, the premises of the Museum of London Archaeological Archive, on Eagle Wharf Road. We enjoyed a presentation on the Bloomberg London site and finds followed by a hands-on session with specialists from MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology).  Hailed as the most important Roman site ever excavated in London and the ‘Pompeii of the North,’ the Bloomberg finds, mostly from the mid-1st/2nd century, include a large assemblage of leather alongside well-preserved pottery, metalwork and wood.
